| In 2021 the Bill Sutherland ’67 Humanitarian Award was created by the Sutherland family in honor of Bill Sutherland, our legendary coach, administrator, teacher, and athlete. The award is presented each year at our annual Sports Hall of Fame, one of Bill’s favorite Notre Dame events. Bill himself was selected for induction into the Notre Dame High School Athletic Hall of Fame in 1995 – he is the only Hall of Fame member to have the dual distinction of both athlete and coach. The 4th Annual Bill Sutherland ’67 Humanitarian Award is presented to Charles Messina for his long time contributions and dedication to Notre Dame High School and her students. Charlie was a graduate of Notre Dame in 1962, served as a board member for many years, was an active leader in our successful capital campaign, and serves a leadership role in the bocce portion of our annual Golf/Tennis/Bocce Tournament.
