NYSPHSAA TRANSFER RULE
NOTE: The Transfer Rule will be enforced as written.
Any student-athlete who plays a JV or Varsity level sport (Grades 9-12) is ineligible to participate in any interscholastic athletic contest in any sport for a period of one (1) year that they participated in during the one (1) year period immediately preceding his/her transfer unless they have a corresponding change in residence of his/her parents (or other persons with whom the student has resided for at least six months.) A residence change must involve a move from one school district to another. The only exception to this, is if you are transferring to another school within your district of residence.
Simply stated, once you begin 9th grade, if you live in Batavia and attend Batavia High, you can transfer to Notre Dame without the transfer penalty listed above because both schools are in your district of residence. This may be done once. However, if you live in and attend Oakfield, Attica, Elba, etc. starting in Grade 9, you cannot transfer to Notre Dame without penalty. But if you start at Notre Dame for Grade 9 and decide it is not for you, you can return to your district of residence (Oakfield, Attica, Elba, etc.) without the transfer penalty listed above.
Please contact Notre Dame with any questions regarding the transfer rule.
