Clubs

There are a number of clubs to get involved with at Notre Dame, each with its own attraction based upon your interests.

Mission Club

The Mission Club is open to all students. The purpose of the club is to put our faith in action by organizing and carrying out activities that benefit people in need such as the Migrant Coat Drive, the Thanksgiving Food Drive and the Christmas Angel Tree. In addition, club members and chaperones have the opportunity to travel to the Romero Center in Camden, New Jersey for a week’s service learning trip. Students may join at any time during the school year.

Student Senate

The student senate is an organization that consists of four members from each class. These members are elected by their peers to represent the student body before the administration and to promote school wide interaction through activities and projects. The student senate is responsible for raising money given to the annual Catholic Charities Campaign and also supports a child in Mérida Mexico through the work of Mission de Amistad.

Scholastic Bowl Team

Notre Dame Scholastic Bowl Team competes with area wide schools in fun, fast paced academic trivia matches at Genesee Community College. Competition starts in January and is aired on a local television channel. The ND Team has placed number one several times since the competition’s inception. They even traveled to New Orleans back in 2004 to participate in the national competition.

Ski Club

Each year students have the opportunity to travel as a group to local ski resorts. Snowboarding and skiing are both popular sports and students that want to learn are welcome to join.

Photography Club

Junior and Senior students that are interested in taking and developing black and white pictures can have the opportunity to learn how to develop and enlarge their own prints in Notre Dame’s professional dark room.

Science Club

Science Club is a newly formed club that incorporates all the sciences. We are currently preparing for an upcoming competition in February, the Science Olympiad. Various students will be competing in different categories, such as building a robot or using Forensics to look at a crime scene.

Environmental Action Club

Environmental Action Club members are committed to raising awareness for the need to conserve natural resources and promote recycling. Once a week, members collect paper from all classrooms and offices for recycling. We also participate in a recycling pledge drive every year that is sponsored by GLOW Solid Waste. Through this competition, we have won an ice cream party for the whole school while reaching our goal of getting close to 100% of the students and faculty of Notre Dame to pledge to buy and use recycled goods.

Nodahi – School Newspaper

Membership in Nodahi, the school newspaper club, is open to all Notre Dame students. Writers cover a variety of assignments, including interviews of faculty and students, sports, school activities, world events, and community happenings. We also welcome opinion letters, comic strips, artwork, and creative writing. Writers can submit at any time, and anyone who would like to learn layout and design can meet with our staff of editors.

SADD

SADD is a peer leadership organization dedicated to preventing destructive decisions, particularly underage drinking, other drug use, impaired driving, teen violence and teen depression and suicide. Our chapter is part to Genesee Countywide SADD. We regularly participate in the countywide meetings and activities.

Our Notre Dame SADD chapter is open to all students. Membership requires that students sign the SADD National Pledge, attend meetings and assist with projects. Meetings occur 6 to 10 times per year and are held during homeroom.

Our SADD chapter is especially visible during Red Ribbon Week (fall). We decorate the front foyer and make public service announcements that educate our students and faculty regarding SADD’s mission. When resources are available we also host assemblies that pertain to substance abuse and related issues.

At Christmas time SADD members create a Chain of Life. Our student’s are asked to sign a substance-free pledge which is placed in the community.

SADD participates in Reality Check. This is a health department initiative that empowers youth to stand up to tobacco companies and the tactics they use to recruit replacement smokers. Our chapter is part of a successful “Skate Down Tobacco” event. This ice skating event is held in the winter months. SADD members create informational booths and signs to educate their peers.

Notre Dame SADD strives to influence youth by hosting events for middle school age peers. In the past we have hosted dances for our friends in the Catholic feeder schools. In the spring our SADD members will host “Game Night” for 6, 7 and 8th grade friends.

The American Red Cross has honored our SADD chapter for its continued support of their blood services program. We have been recognized as a Platinum Level Life Share Sponsor for hosting 2 blood drives every year. Our students set up the drive and man the canteen.

Prom Promise is our spring campaign. This is aimed at reducing underage drinking associated with prom and post prom activities.

“Mater Dei” Yearbook

Mater Dei, the school yearbook, is produced annually by students of Notre Dame High School . Students from all grade levels are encouraged to join. Staff members work in a variety of capacities including photography, copywriting, editing, layout, and design. Last year, the co-editors attended a workshop at Ralph Wilson Stadium to learn how to use the latest technology and to network with students from the western New York area.
